Small End Islands

Small end islands are the tiny floating chunks of end stone scattered through the void between the larger outer islands. They are quiet, empty and surrounded by open space. This small end islands finder reads your seed and marks the nearest areas with a biome icon on the map above. The map moves to the End automatically, so you can see how the islands link up.

Where small end islands generate

This biome fills the open space between the larger outer End islands. It is the only biome where small islands generate.

As a result, it covers huge stretches of the outer End. Like the other outer biomes, it is a Java Edition feature. In Bedrock, the End is one single biome.

What you find in small end islands

Mostly void. Here and there, small round islands of end stone float in the air. They make handy stepping stones between the big islands.

  • Mobs: endermen spawn on the islands.
  • Blocks: end stone.
  • Features: small islands, and sometimes an end gateway.

End cities and chorus trees never generate in this biome.

Each island is usually only a few blocks across. Many are round, like stones floating in space. Endermen can still teleport onto them and catch you off guard. So look around before you land, and keep an ender pearl ready for a quick escape. Bigger clusters of islands are the safest places to stop.

How to find small end islands

In game, fly away from any large outer island. The scattered rocks you pass over belong to this biome.

The map lets you see the layout first. Enter your seed and pick Java. Then the map switches to the End and flies to the nearest small end islands, marking them with biome icons. The list on the left shows more areas. Click one, and the view recenters there.

Plan a route with the coordinates, then use an elytra to hop between islands.

Tips for crossing small end islands

Use the little islands as rest stops on long elytra flights. Land, check your elytra durability, and look for the next big island.

If you lose your elytra, bridging from island to island is possible but slow. Bring plenty of blocks and slow falling potions. Ender pearls also help you cross short gaps quickly.

Small end islands finder for elytra routes

The outer End is huge, and small end islands cover much of it. Because of that, knowing where they are helps you plan safe routes.

Start with the marked area on the map. Then use the list on the left to see how far the nearby areas reach. Islands in this biome are small, but they give you a place to land and catch your breath.

A good route jumps from a big island to a cluster of small ones, then on to the next big island. That way, you are never far from solid ground. If you are bridging instead of flying, aim for the closest island each time.

Also look out for end gateways. Some sit on or near small islands and link back toward the main island. Throw an ender pearl into one to use it.

Version history

The infinite outer islands were added in Java 1.9, separated from the main island by a large void gap. In 1.13, the outer End was split into biomes, and the floating island biome was renamed small end islands.
