A flower forest is a colourful woodland where almost every block of grass carries a flower. It has more flower types than any other biome, plus lots of bees. That makes it the best place to gather dyes. This flower forest finder looks through your seed for you. The map above flies to the nearest one and marks it with a biome icon.
Where flower forests generate
Flower forests need a moderate temperature, very low humidity and negative weirdness. Those settings rarely line up, so the biome is much rarer than a regular forest. In fact, the two never border each other.
Instead, flower forests usually sit next to plains and meadows. Sunflower plains can appear nearby, often across a river. Less often you will see swamps, savannas, windswept hills or snowy slopes at the edges.
Because the biome is small, you might only see a patch of colour across a river. So it helps to scan the map first instead of exploring blindly.
Flowers and mobs in a flower forest
The ground is covered in flowers between oak and birch trees. You can find these types:
- allium, azure bluet, cornflower, dandelion, lily of the valley, oxeye daisy and poppy
- red, orange, white and pink tulips
- tall flowers: lilac, peony and rose bush
Blue orchids and sunflowers do not grow here, so you need a swamp and sunflower plains for those. Bee nests appear on about 5% of trees, roughly ten times more than in a normal forest. For animals, rabbits spawn instead of wolves, alongside sheep, pigs, chickens and cows. Abandoned camps can also generate in the biome.
How to find a flower forest in your seed
First, enter the seed and choose Java or Bedrock. The map then centres on the nearest flower forest and draws its outline. Because the biome is rare, the list on the left is handy. It shows every flower forest in range, and a click moves you there.
In game, F3 shows minecraft:flower_forest. From a distance, the ground looks speckled with colour. With cheats, teleport to the map coordinates using /tp @s X 100 Z.
Using the flower forest biome
This biome is a dye factory. With almost every colour nearby, you can dye wool, glass, terracotta and banners without travelling far. Also, bone meal on grass here spawns more of the local flowers, so supply never runs out.
Bees make it even better. Set up hives near the flowers and harvest honey and honeycomb. Honeycomb waxes copper and makes candles. However, do not hit bees, because the whole swarm will chase you.
For builders, a flower forest is a beautiful base location. For example, a cottage or garden build fits right in. Rabbits also give food and rabbit hide early on.
Flower forest dye guide
Most flowers here turn straight into dye in a crafting grid. This quick list shows what you get:
- Red: poppy, red tulip and rose bush.
- Yellow: dandelion.
- Blue: cornflower.
- White: lily of the valley.
- Light gray: azure bluet, oxeye daisy and white tulip.
- Orange: orange tulip.
- Pink: pink tulip and peony.
- Magenta: allium and lilac.
You can mix these to make even more colours. For example, blue and white make light blue. Tall flowers like lilacs give two dye each. So one trip here can stock your dye chest for a long time.
