Seed map › Ores Finder › Redstone Finder
Redstone powers every contraption, from simple doors to huge farms. This Minecraft redstone ore finder predicts where redstone ore generates from your seed. Enter a seed and the map marks predicted veins near spawn. Click one to copy coordinates or a /tp command. Then dig deep, since redstone sits near the bottom of the world.
Best Y Level for Redstone
Redstone ore generates from Y -64 to Y 15. It gets more common the deeper you go.
One batch spreads evenly over the whole range. A second, larger batch stays between about Y -63 and Y -32 and peaks at the very bottom. So the deepest layers above bedrock hold the most redstone.
That overlaps with diamonds. A tunnel near Y -58 or -59 gives you plenty of both.
At these depths, everything is deepslate. That slows mining, so bring an Efficiency pickaxe if you have one. Lava lakes also cover large areas near the bottom of the world. Keep a water bucket ready, and light up open caves around your tunnel. That way, mobs cannot spawn and sneak up on you while you work.
How Redstone Ore Works
Redstone ore glows and gives off particles when you touch it or walk on it. That makes veins easy to see once you open them up.
Each ore drops several pieces of redstone dust, and Fortune adds more. Below Y 0, it generates as deepslate redstone ore, which takes longer to mine.
Redstone ore is common compared to diamonds. Even so, a good vein saves you a lot of time when you build a big project.
Using the Redstone Ore Finder Map
Pick your edition and version, then enter your seed. The map shows predicted redstone veins near spawn, sorted by distance.
Click a result to copy its coordinates or a /tp command. You arrive on the surface above it. Next, dig down to the listed Y level and mine around the point. Watch for lava lakes, which are common at these depths.
You need an iron pickaxe or better to get dust from redstone ore.
Limits of Redstone Predictions
Caves, aquifers and lava lakes can remove ore after placement. The finder shows where the game places ore blobs, not what survives every later step.
So dig a few blocks around each marker. In practice, redstone veins are common enough that you often find more along the way.
Uses for Redstone Dust
Redstone dust is the base of every circuit. Lay it on the ground to carry a signal from a lever, button or pressure plate.
It also goes into many crafted blocks and items:
- Repeaters and comparators for circuits.
- Pistons and observers for moving parts and sensors.
- Droppers and dispensers for item machines.
- Powered rails, detector rails and activator rails.
- Compasses, clocks and redstone lamps.
- Target blocks and note blocks.
Brewers use redstone as well. Adding it to a potion extends how long the effect lasts.
To store it, craft nine dust into a block of redstone. The block also gives off a constant signal, which is handy in builds.
Witch farms drop redstone too. Still, mining a few good veins is usually enough for most projects.
