Deep Lukewarm Ocean

The deep lukewarm ocean is the deeper, warmer cousin of the regular deep ocean. Its sandy floor lies twice as deep as a lukewarm ocean, and ocean monuments can rise from it. This deep lukewarm ocean finder reads your seed and marks the nearest areas on the map above. It is ideal if you want a monument surrounded by clear, light blue water.

Where deep lukewarm oceans generate

This biome replaces the deep ocean in moderately warm climate zones. In other words, it appears where a lukewarm ocean would sit, but further from land.

Since it is a deep biome, it seldom touches the coast. Instead, it borders lukewarm oceans, deep oceans and sometimes mushroom fields.

What you find in a deep lukewarm ocean

The floor is sand, just like the shallow version. However, there is even more tall seagrass. Kelp also grows here, which is not the case in warm oceans.

  • Fish: tropical fish, cod and pufferfish.
  • Other mobs: squid, dolphins, the nautilus and drowned.
  • Structures: ocean monuments, shipwrecks, ocean ruins and ruined portals.

Monuments here look striking against the bright water. They are also a little easier to spot from a boat.

Like other deep seas, this biome hides caves and ravines below the seabed. Some of them break through the sand and flood. Inside, glow squid swim in the dark, and you might spot exposed ores along the walls.

How to find a deep lukewarm ocean

In game, sail from a warm coast toward open water. When the sandy floor drops out of view but the water stays light, you have found it.

The map makes this precise. Enter your seed and select Java or Bedrock. Right away, the map moves to the nearest deep lukewarm ocean and marks it with a biome icon. Need a different one? Pick from the list on the left, and the map recenters on your choice.

Read the coordinates, then use /tp @s X 70 Z. From the surface, look down for the glow of a monument.

Deep lukewarm ocean tips

If you plan to raid a monument, this is one of the nicest places to do it. The lighter water improves visibility a bit compared with colder seas.

Still, the usual rules apply. Bring water breathing, night vision and milk for Mining Fatigue. Guardians fire lasers, so keep moving and use blocks for cover. Afterwards, the sand floor provides material for filling in the monument.

Why pick a deep lukewarm ocean?

All deep ocean variants can hold monuments, so why choose this one? First, the light blue water is easier to see through than dark cold water. Second, the sandy floor is simple to dig into and provides free sand for glass.

Third, the wildlife is varied. Tropical fish, pufferfish and dolphins all share this water. Dolphins give you Dolphin's Grace when you swim beside them, which speeds you up a lot. That is handy when you travel back and forth to a monument.

Finally, it often sits near warm and lukewarm coasts. Those coasts can lead to deserts, with villages and desert temples. As a result, one trip can cover several goals. Use the list on the left to compare areas and find the one with the best surroundings.

Version history

The deep lukewarm ocean joined the game in Java 1.13 with the other ocean variants. Its floor was briefly stone in a 1.17 snapshot, but the sand floor returned soon after.
