The lukewarm ocean sits between the tropics and the temperate sea. It has a sandy floor, lots of seagrass, and a mix of tropical fish and cod. This lukewarm ocean finder checks your seed and shows the nearest lukewarm water on the map above. Use it when you want a bright, friendly sea that is a little easier to reach than a warm ocean.
Where lukewarm oceans generate
Lukewarm oceans form in fairly warm climate zones. As the temperature rises, they turn into warm oceans. As it drops, they become regular oceans. So you often find them as a ring around warm water.
Further from land, the seabed sinks and the biome becomes a deep lukewarm ocean. Occasional small islands with grass also appear.
Because they surround warm water, lukewarm oceans are also a good clue. If you find one, a warm ocean with coral may be close by. On the map, check the neighboring areas to see which way the water gets warmer.
What you find in a lukewarm ocean
Sand covers most of the floor. In shallow spots, you also see patches of dirt, gravel and clay. Compared with colder seas, there is more seagrass and less kelp.
- Fish: tropical fish, cod and pufferfish.
- Other water mobs: squid, dolphins and the nautilus.
- Hostile mobs: drowned.
- Structures: shipwrecks, warm sandstone ocean ruins and ruined portals.
Coral reefs do not generate here. For coral, you need a true warm ocean.

Tips for the lukewarm ocean
Lukewarm oceans are a good place to catch tropical fish in a bucket. Axolotls love them, and they also make nice aquarium displays.
Warm ocean ruins here are built from sandstone. Their chests and suspicious sand can hold useful loot, including the sniffer egg, so bring a brush. Meanwhile, the sandy floor is handy if you need lots of sand for glass.
Lukewarm ocean finder tips for builders
A lukewarm ocean makes a great setting for a beach base. The water is clear enough to see the sandy floor from the surface, so glass tunnels and underwater rooms look impressive.
Start by checking a few areas in the list. Pick one near a warm ocean if you also want coral for decoration. Pick one next to a regular ocean if you prefer a kelp-rich seabed nearby. Then plan your build around the shoreline.
Sand is easy to collect here, which helps with glass. Seagrass can be harvested with shears and replanted around your base. Additionally, dolphins visit lukewarm water. Feed them raw cod or salmon, and they swim toward a nearby shipwreck or ocean ruin. Swimming beside dolphins also gives you Dolphin's Grace, a big swim speed boost.
Lukewarm ocean history
The lukewarm ocean was added in Java 1.13 as part of the Update Aquatic. Shipwrecks and ocean ruins came in the same update. In 1.16, both structures became rarer across all oceans.
