Meadow

Meadows are open, grassy fields high up on mountain slopes. They are full of flowers and have only a few lone trees, each with a bee nest. This meadow biome finder uses your seed to show the closest meadows on the map above. Use it to find a scenic base site, bees or a mountain village.

Where meadows generate

Meadows form at high elevation in cool to temperate inland areas. You see them as thin strips on mountain sides, as flat plateaus, or as valleys inside a ring of peaks.

Snowy slopes or groves usually sit between a meadow and the highest peaks. Sometimes a meadow touches jagged or frozen peaks directly. Lower down, you reach plains, taigas, forests, birch forests or flower forests.

Cherry groves often border meadows in drier spots, and pale gardens in very humid ones. Underground, dripstone caves and the deep dark are common. Meadows are a fairly common mountain biome.

What you find in a meadow

Tall and short grass cover the ground. Flowers grow in large patches, so one type can fill a whole slope.

  • Flowers: wildflowers, dandelions, cornflowers, poppies, alliums, oxeye daisies and azure bluets.
  • Trees: rare lone oaks or birches. Each one has a bee nest.
  • Mobs: rabbits, sheep and donkeys, plus bees from the nests.
  • Underground: emerald ore and infested stone, like other mountain biomes.
  • Structures: villages, pillager outposts and, since Java 26.3, abandoned camps.

How to find a meadow with the meadow biome finder

Paste your seed into the map and choose your version. The map pans to the closest meadow and marks it with a biome icon. The panel on the left lists more meadows by distance. Click one to see it and copy the coordinates.

Prefer commands? Use /locate biome minecraft:meadow with cheats. To jump there, type /tp @s X ~ Z. Meadows sit high, so expect a climb if you walk.

Meadow tips for builders and survival

Meadows make a great first base. You get flat ground, a view over the valley and lots of flowers for dye. Donkeys give you an early way to carry items.

Bee nests on the trees are a source of honey and honeycomb. Place a campfire under the nest before you use bottles or shears. That keeps the bees calm.

Mine into the nearby mountain for emeralds. Watch out for infested stone, which hides silverfish and breaks oddly fast.

What lies around a meadow

Meadows rarely stand alone. Climb higher and you usually hit snowy slopes, groves or sharp peaks. Head downhill and you reach plains, taigas or forests.

That position makes a meadow a handy hub. In drier areas, a cherry grove may sit right next door. In very humid areas, a pale garden can border the meadow instead.

Underground, dripstone caves and the deep dark are the most common neighbours. So a meadow base can give you flowers on top and deep cave access below. Check the map list to see which of these biomes are close to your chosen meadow.

Meadows also tend to be quieter than lowland plains. With few trees, you can spot mobs from far away at dusk.

Meadow version history

Meadows arrived in Java 1.18 with the Caves & Cliffs terrain update. Villages and pillager outposts were added during that development cycle. Trees with guaranteed bee nests came in the same version.

Wildflowers were added in 1.21.5. Java 26.3 brought abandoned camps.

Meadow FAQ

Can villages spawn in meadows?

Yes. Villages can generate in meadows, and so can pillager outposts.

Do meadows always have bees?

Every naturally generated tree in a meadow has a bee nest. Trees are rare, though, so some meadows have only a few.

What flowers grow in a meadow?

Wildflowers, dandelions, cornflowers, poppies, alliums, oxeye daisies and azure bluets.

How do I find a meadow quickly?

Use /locate biome minecraft:meadow, or enter your seed in the map above to see the nearest meadows.

Are there emeralds under meadows?

Yes. Emerald ore generates in meadows like in other mountain biomes.
