Pale Garden

The pale garden is a grey, silent forest of pale oak trees and hanging moss. At night, creaking hearts inside some trees wake up and summon the creaking. This pale garden finder reads your seed and shows the nearest gardens on the map above. Since they are rare, it saves you a long search.

Where pale gardens generate

Pale gardens are a rare variant of the dark forest. They form inland in temperate, very humid areas, and almost always sit next to dark forests.

They often appear on higher ground. Because of that, meadows and groves are common neighbours. You may also see birch forests, jungles and old growth taigas nearby.

Most gardens are small, but some stretch for hundreds of blocks. Lush caves, dripstone caves and the deep dark often lie underneath.

What you find in a pale garden

Pale oak trees fill the area. Pale moss blocks and pale moss carpet cover the ground. Pale hanging moss droops from the leaves. Eyeblossoms grow here too and open at night.

  • Creaking hearts: some pale oaks contain one. At night, an active heart spawns a creaking.
  • The creaking: it only moves when you are not looking at it. You cannot kill it while its heart is active.
  • No passive mobs: animals do not spawn here naturally.
  • Structures: woodland mansions can generate here since 1.21.5, and abandoned camps since Java 26.3.

No background music plays in this biome. Music fades out when you enter.

Using the pale garden finder on the map

Enter your seed and check that the version is 1.21.4 or newer. The map moves to the nearest pale garden and marks it with a biome icon. More gardens appear in the list on the left. Click one to centre it and copy the coordinates.

In game, use /locate biome minecraft:pale_garden. Then teleport with /tp @s X ~ Z. Try to arrive in daylight, before the creaking wakes up.

Survival tips for the pale garden

To stop a creaking for good, find and break its creaking heart. Follow the particle trail that appears when you hit the creaking. It leads back to the heart.

Hitting a creaking makes resin clumps appear on the pale oak logs around its heart. Smelt resin clumps into resin bricks for building.

Collect pale oak saplings, pale moss and eyeblossoms for decoration. Pale oak wood gives you a pale grey wood set, and eyeblossoms make dye.

How creaking hearts behave

A creaking heart sits inside a pale oak trunk, between two logs. In daylight it stays dormant. At night it becomes active and can spawn a creaking.

Small gardens may have no heart at all, since only some pale oaks contain one. Bone meal on pale moss also spreads it to nearby blocks, which helps with decoration.

Want to keep the eerie look but stay safe? Build in daylight and place your base away from the trees with hearts. The heart controls the creaking, so breaking the hearts near your base is the surest fix.

Pale garden version history

The pale garden was announced at Minecraft Live 2024. It first appeared as an experiment in Java 1.21.2. It became part of the normal game in 1.21.4, The Garden Awakens drop, with eyeblossoms and falling leaf particles.

In 1.21.5, gardens became larger and more common, and woodland mansions started generating in them. Java 26.3 added abandoned camps.
