Turning a spawn-side village into a head start
With a village a hundred steps away, skip the usual scramble for shelter. Walk in, find an unclaimed bed and use it to set your spawn. Then look around for the easy wins.
- Crops: carrots, potatoes and wheat grow in the farm plots. Take a few and replant what you harvest.
- Chests: blacksmiths and some other buildings hold iron, bread, tools and occasionally armor.
- Workstations: a lectern, composter or grindstone next to a jobless villager turns them into a trader.
Do not break houses or take beds that villagers are using. They will lose their jobs, and their iron golem may turn on you if you hit villagers.
A tidy village also gives you a ready-made base. Light it up with torches so zombies stop spawning on the paths.
Keeping the village alive through the first nights
Villages are free protection, but they need some care. Zombies appear in the dark, and in rare cases a zombie siege can break through doors and attack villagers at night.
Place torches on every rooftop and along the walkways. Light level matters more than walls, because mobs only spawn on dark blocks. Fence in the main well if you want a tidy plaza.
Iron golems spawn when enough villagers have beds and workstations, so a small cluster of houses is plenty. If you later want a bigger trading hall, move two or three villagers to a safe room using a boat or minecart, then breed them with bread or carrots.
- Trade emeralds for enchanted books before you go mining.
- Keep one door shut while you sleep so wandering mobs cannot slip in.

FAQ
What is the closest village in the 0 block seed?
That village overlaps the spawn point itself, so your first steps may land you on a path or beside the well. Look up for rooftops as soon as you load.
How big can a village at spawn get?
Villages can span many houses, but the size depends on the biome and the roll. Walk the perimeter once to see how far it spreads before you plan farms.
Can I trade right away if I start in a village?
You can trade with any villager that already has a profession. Unemployed ones need a workstation first, and a trade only unlocks after they have been given a job.
Do spawn-side villages attract pillager raids?
Raids need the Bad Omen effect, which comes from killing a pillager captain. A quiet village with no outpost nearby is unlikely to see one by accident.
