Lava lakes are pools of lava on the surface and in caves. With a water bucket you can turn one into obsidian for a nether portal, and a bucket of lava is great fuel. This Minecraft lava lake finder shows the lava lakes of your Bedrock seed with their coordinates.
How to use the lava lake finder
- Enter your seed and pick your Bedrock version.
- Zoom in until the lava markers appear.
- Click a marker for its coordinates and a
/tpcommand.
Making a nether portal from a lava lake
You need ten obsidian for a portal frame without corners, so fourteen is safest. Pour water over the lava source blocks to turn them into obsidian, then mine it with a diamond pickaxe. Or build the frame with buckets of lava and water, and you only need an iron pickaxe.
Where lava lakes generate
Lava lakes only form on land, never in oceans or rivers. Lakes at the surface are rarer than lakes below it, so walk around the marked area and check nearby caves.
Lava Lake FAQ
Can lava lakes form in oceans?
No. They only generate on land, outside ocean and river biomes.
How do I get obsidian without a diamond pickaxe?
Build the portal frame in place with a lava bucket and a water bucket. The lava turns into obsidian where you need it.
Does the lava lake finder work for Java?
Not yet. It uses Bedrock world generation.
