SeedMapView vs Chunkbase: The Best Chunkbase Alternative

Quick answer: SeedMapView is the best Chunkbase alternative in 2026. It shows your world in real 3D blocks, marks every ore vein with its Y level, predicts chest loot and keeps everything on one map without ads. Chunkbase is still a good tool, but it is a flat 2D map spread over dozens of separate apps.

Chunkbase has been the default Minecraft seed map for years. So why look for a Chunkbase alternative? Most players want three things: to see the world before they play, to find what they need fast, and to trust the coordinates. Below we compare both tools on exactly that, feature by feature. The comparison was made in November 2026, with Java 26.3 and Bedrock 26.60.

SeedMapView wins on 9 rows, Chunkbase on 2, and the rest are a tie.

1. See your world in 3D, not just colours

This is the biggest difference. Chunkbase draws biomes as flat colours. SeedMapView builds the terrain block by block with the game's own textures. You see mountains, cliffs, rivers and trees in 3D, and you can fly over them.

For Java 1.18 and newer, the heights come from the game's own terrain noise. As a result, a valley on the map is a valley in your world. That matters when you pick a base spot, plan a route or look for a flat area to build on. A 2D map cannot tell you if that village sits on a cliff.

You can still switch to a classic 2D map with one click, or press 2.

2. Ores with exact Y levels

Chunkbase shows the large ore veins of iron and copper. SeedMapView goes further: it runs the game's ore placement for every chunk you look at. Each diamond, ancient debris, emerald, gold, redstone, lapis, iron, copper, coal and quartz vein gets a marker with its Y level. Click one for the exact X, Y and Z and the number of ore blocks.

In short, you can dig straight down to a diamond vein instead of strip mining for an hour. See the diamond finder or the ancient debris finder.

3. Chest loot, elytra and Notch apples

On Java, SeedMapView predicts what is in the chests. Click a desert temple, shipwreck, buried treasure, ruined portal, bastion or End City and press Show loot. The map generates each chest with the loot tables of your version.

Two more features build on it:

  • End ships: End Cities with a ship, and so an elytra, carry an elytra badge.
  • Notch apples: the enchanted golden apple finder checks the real chest loot, so a golden apple badge means the apple is really there.

4. One map instead of 30 apps

Chunkbase splits its features over more than 30 apps: a village finder, a slime finder, a biome finder and so on. Each one is a separate page with its own settings.

SeedMapView puts everything on one map. Turn on villages, strongholds, slime chunks, ores and a biome search at the same time. There is still a finder page for every structure, biome and ore, but each of them opens the same full map. Furthermore, your seed, version and view follow you from page to page.

5. No ads, 22 languages, a seed library

SeedMapView has no ads at all, while Chunkbase works with 141 advertising partners. As a result, the map gets the whole screen and loads faster. It also speaks 22 languages, from Spanish and German to Japanese and Arabic.

Every seed gets its own page with a rating from S to F, the spawn, nearby structures and biomes. Players share their seeds in the seed library, where the map engine checks every claim before it shows up.

Where Chunkbase still has the edge

To be fair, Chunkbase covers a few things SeedMapView does not:

  • Very old versions: Java 1.7 to 1.11 and Bedrock 1.14 to 1.17. SeedMapView starts at Java 1.12 and Bedrock 1.18.
  • Java dungeons, caves and lava pools: SeedMapView shows dungeons, ravines and lava lakes for Bedrock only so far.
  • Snapshots: Chunkbase adds experimental versions early. SeedMapView adds each release once the game is out.

For most players on a current version, these points do not matter. If your world is from 2014, Chunkbase is the safer pick.

Which one should you use?

Use SeedMapView if you play a current version and want to see the real terrain, find ores and loot, and keep everything on one map without ads. That covers almost every survival, speedrun and building world.

Use Chunkbase if you need a version older than Java 1.12 or Bedrock 1.18, or Java dungeons.

Not sure? Enter your seed in both and compare. The structures match, because both run the game's own placement rules. The difference is how much more you can see.
