Dungeon

A dungeon is a small room of cobblestone and mossy cobblestone with a mob spawner in the middle and up to two chests. It is the classic first XP farm. This Minecraft dungeon finder runs Bedrock's own dungeon placement against the real terrain and caves of your seed, and marks each spawner with its X, Y and Z coordinates and its mob.

How to use the dungeon finder

  1. Enter your seed and pick your Bedrock version.
  2. Zoom in close: dungeons appear on the map when you are near the ground, because each one is checked block by block.
  3. Click a spawner for its coordinates, the mob type and a /tp command.

The list next to the map shows the dungeons closest to spawn.

How dungeons generate on Bedrock

Each chunk gets 14 tries: 4 between Y −58 and Y −1, and 10 between Y 0 and Y 319. A try only becomes a dungeon when its floor and ceiling are solid and the room has between one and five openings into a cave at floor level. That is why dungeons sit next to caves, and why most tries fail.

Skeleton25%XP farm, bones and arrows

How accurate is it?

The finder checks every dungeon against the seed's terrain and noise caves. Old-style carved tunnels are not part of that check, so a dungeon that opens only into a carved tunnel can be missing from the map. A dungeon the map shows is placed where the game puts it. Chests that another structure, such as a mineshaft, already changed can differ.

Java Edition

Java places dungeons with its own rules, which the map does not show yet. Use the Bedrock edition on the map for this finder.

Dungeon FAQ

How many dungeons are in a chunk?

Bedrock tries 14 times per chunk, but most tries fail, so most chunks have none. A few have two or more.

What is the best dungeon for an XP farm?

A zombie or skeleton spawner close to your base. Two spawners close together make the best farm.

Why do I need to zoom in?

Each dungeon is checked against the real terrain block by block, which takes time, so the map only does it for the area you look at closely.

Does the dungeon finder work for Java?

Not yet. It uses Bedrock world generation.
